That's it. The tournament structure dream of 50000 chips with blinds of 25/50 or initials 1000BB to start is now closed.
is the tournament that I apprehended the most since I play poker, because of its unusual structure on the one hand, but also because of his buy-in (1500 +150). I had never played a live tournament in more than 150 € (IPO ever in Dublin in October 2008)
all began on 5/2/2009, the day of our departure for Dublin (Chris and me). We arrive in Paris by TGV at 14:05. Our flight is scheduled for 16:45. We arrived by taxi the airport to 15.15. We wait in the queue to check in our luggage. It remains 2 / 3 people in front of us and I hear someone say staff "hey, it's blocked." The lady asks his colleague to save the people involved in our queue, "you either you can not save anyone? "
" Well ... yes. " The first hostess she reassures people before her, saying: "Do not worry this is a small computer problem. "
OK ... no worries. I take this opportunity to call
Tropfranc X (one of the forum wampoker) who had started a topic to identify all persons who would participate in this great poker weekend. He said he has not yet arrived at the airport, that within 15 minutes, we can get to know ...
I hang up ... 3 minutes later, the computer appears to persist bp. And then ... on the display screens, one sees "canceled flight - flight canceled." Nobody dares to believe too much has this joke in bad taste. Even a small computer problem ... but surely a manager comes and confirms this information: Dublin was covered with snow leading to the closure of the airport to new order ... It also tells us that we must go to a window "Alyzia" to try to rebook on other flights. And then I see everyone starting to get restless. I watch Chris, we begin to bring our business to follow suit. At this moment a little concerned about the cancellation, the fear of missing the tournament, I'm stupidly everyone. Chris advised me to hurry, because if we must reposition ourselves on other flights, there will not be enough space for everyone. So I accelerated pace. After a little run a hundred meters, here we are again in a queue. We are about in the top 10. But the news late in arriving, and we're not sure how it will all work out. We are told at first that no further flights will from that day. He'll have to book the following, the next flight available was only the next day at 10:20 (Given that the tournament starts at 14h, we reserve a hotel room for the night ...) Anyway it is not joy.
When we re on this new flight, the manager announced that there remain a dozen seats on the flight who had to go to the 15h day (it is 16:15). Dublin Airport would re-open in the evening, and this flight (originally scheduled to 15h should be the only company flight from today. We come therefore to have a seat on this flight, and we do our check-in and go to the bathroom boarding, which is full of people. The individuals listed on this flight have already waited there for 2 hours, and is also the fate that awaits us, so we took off at 20h30 ... At first a lot of person will not able to get back on others that "Tropfranc" with whom I had been able to exchange a few words ... pity.
That is a lot of stress from at the same time as we settle into the beautiful apartment we took for the night once arrived in Dublin. FCN44 Nicout and (2 very good friends of Nantes) settled there since the beginning of the aprem already.
After a nice little Italian restaurant, we join the Fitzwilliam or they play in CG. He tells me their respective sessions. I tell them about our misadventures in the afternoon, but suddenly I am much less stressed for the tournament than in previous days. I take it almost for a freeroll because I almost missed the opportunity to do so. Brief reassured of that, I spent a rather quiet night before entering the arena.
Friday, February 6: Day 1
installation at the Red Cow (hotel where the tournament takes place). We meet several players clothes 'Winamax', we are witnessing the arrival of the dream team with MIK.22 (Michel Abecassis) Yuestud Guignol and newly arrived from London. Manuba will not come until much later (after the start of the tournament) after many ups and downs ... I
crosses known heads (Tristan Clemencon, Hubyone, Mamour, the latter 2 being Local Heroes like me) ... I recrosses Tilou4fun (as I had seen the day before at the airport, but that I dared not talked yet). Strategies of small discussions begin. Should we play tight? take risks on a tournament like that ...?? Everyone is anxious to begin.
I confirm my registration, I raffling my place table 03 seat 04. I'll settle down, and I see a place MIK22 June 3 ... that is not necessarily good because it will have a position on me in many situations.
I am surrounded by only 2 players in the tournament (154 participants total) which proves to be real safe locks ultra secure (especially the one on my left): left of MIK22, DrBee, another qualified Winamax at the Headquarters 0308: an English player, another lock. 0309: correct player / medium. 0301: french player rather loose passive. 0302: Irish rather tight right that looks good to read opposing hands. In short the only real danger comes from MIK22.
Anecdote 1: First one exchanges with MIK22:
MIK22: "What is your name
"
Me: "knacky!"
MIK22: "Oh that's funny, it makes a
little pigeon like that ... "
Me:" ha .... Ok ... "Inwardly
:" it is what we
will see huh huh:) "
Shuffle Up and Deal: Round 1 25/50 50k stack
first-hand in early position: 72o (true!) good bah, no, we will not start with ca ... fold.
MIK22 opens at 150. The SB call BB fold.
Txx Flop with FD (flush draw) SB open. MIK22 call. Turn: FD returns, board remains at T high. Bet call for 2 players. River blank: check check: AA for the first game in SB. MIK22 muck. I hear tell his left he had JJ. 1st
observations: 0301 is a day that can be a bit "tricky" it does not 3bet AA oop (out of position) pf. MIK22 pot control position on a board rather moderately dangerous to his hand. Care must be taken not to bluff even if it seems to show weakness.
I sleep the next few hands to get my first button, I raise with 84hh. MIK pays only 22. KT3 flop. I CBET (-bet) and won my first try. Allez hop, go!
I raise 3, 4 following hands with me and has always MIK22 see the flop. We test, test-cons, s'aggresse, to gauge ... and we exchanged our tokens kindly
-I then: 7: 2h: R EP (Raise Early in position). Call in middle of MIK22. Fold the rest of the table
Flop: 7c: 7s: As CBET / Call. Turn: Jc, 2nd DF: 2nd barrel / Call. River Blank: Bet / Fold flop
Good First sympathetic with my trash. That's what I'll try to do throughout this tournament (at least while I deep enough to do so)
Raiser many many hands. Avoid the mistake of bluffing MIK22 on jars and try to grow when I touch the pots.
Round 2 50/100 stack about 52k
big pot-1: KK Hi Jack. 2 limpers, I R to isolate 425. 0305 (woman to my right) and a call of two limpers. Note that this is the first hand played since 0305 the tournament (just throwing all maps of the first level ...) It's simple
given the profile of the player, his range is either a pair or AJs +
Flop 852, no FD. I CBET in 1300, it R 4000. the other players fold, and me talking: at'elle 88, 55 or 22? Is she done with AC 99-QQ? Or is it me slowplay AA pf?
I hesitate a little, and I decide to pay. Turn: 2. I check it and put 6000 after a little time to think ... I hesitate to really throw but little time for reflection I am going to say it can be checked river, so I'm still paying. River 4. We check every 2 (whew!) and shows QQ.
I win this pot, but I'm not really happy with the way he went. Considering the opponent in front, I could sleep my hand. Well anyway I shared the depth of the carpet is that I pay ... and I think I would lie on a river on last ...
- 1st Tournament trips: 4 / 5 limpers in a shot or I 'm in position. I open 44 that j'overlimp. The flop came 47T rainbow. Everyone check, I bet 2 / 3 of the pot and won. An Irishman said: "nice position abuse" I smiled at him without showing him my hand ...
-: 6d: 8d middle position. R 275. MIK22 call the cut-off. Everyone layer. Interestingly Flop: Jd: 8: 4d. I CBET 450. MIK22 pay. Turn: Jc. I check, MIK Check. River: 5c. I hesitate to VB (Value Bet) my 8 but I think it pays me better than I prefer to check-call and encourage him to bluff. But also check and shows me TT. Main interesting because it tells me not 3bet with TT in position against me. VB and do not necessarily on a board rather correct for him
-: 6s: 7d R middle position to 275. MIK22 call the HJ. Layer round the world. Flop Q53. I CBET 450 my gutshot straight draw. He pays me. I check the turn K. MIK22 up 1200, I decided CR 3500 and the feeling especially low, I never played like that before turn ... but I make a mistake with my chips and I'm finally at 2400 miniraise MIK ... seeing that little hesitation, I took the opportunity to R in 8050 ... At first I said there is a strong probability that he did nothing ... and another tournament, maybe I'll send my box ... but I decided to wait a better opportunity . I fold, he shows me a beautiful bluff MIK 4 ... I was in 2 fingers you unmask
- AK UTG +1, R 275. Everyone layer to the SB (french 0301) flop 754. We check every 2. Turn 3. Check check again. River 7. Open it to 600 in a pot that is barely more. I watch him, he smiled at me, I think to really be seen in action at once and even if I lose, I am told it is a good opportunity to show that hand. To show that I do not necessarily raise with nothing, and I do not necessarily CBET all my flops. Then we should not bluff me later, I can pay light. I pay and it shows me QJo. Easy call for some, but it is confident even when paying with A high, and it makes me a little respect vis-à-vis opponents. I can make good call, do not bother trying to bluff me! ;) (This time will be important later against the same player)
first break: I have 65k, the tournament is very correct, I have almost increased my stack initial 1 / 3. That is encouraging, my table is pretty easy, I just held my style of play, mix small-ball and basketball knacky (Sleb thank you for this term:)
Round 3 75 / 150 65k stack
That a level that will give me great confidence for the rest of the day. I open: Kc Kh to Hi-Jack. There is a limp before me. I decide to R 650. MIK22 the button 3bet to 2150. Everyone folded to me. MIK shows me bcp strength with his reraise. We saw earlier, he had not 3bet with: Tc: Ts. So unless it changes speed (which is entirely possible with such a professional) but if my read is good compared to our history, he has AQ +, JJ +. With my KK, I am very often in front of his range ... but with such depth, I do not want R to take the risk again and cons of playing AA. I therefore call 2150 to see the flop: Qh-Jd: 2d Berk flop ... what rotten. If I read my, I am now behind if AA, QQ, JJ. I left before AQ and AK. I check, and put tiny MIK to 2.5 k. Last extremely suspicious. But with such a symbol and such a depth of carpet (about 50k behind effective carpet) I feel compelled to pay ... especially if the turn: Ks
I am now almost to be on hand ... has an improbable AT. By cons, from his point of view, an AT (such ATdd is very likely to me). I still check this turn. He and I put 6k CR to 13.5 k after much hesitation in my actions (not necessarily voluntary ...) But I put the time to try to find the most appropriate amount in order to make the most of it. So I CR to 13.5 k. MIK22 pays fairly quickly.
perfect River: 7c. It is now that the square of 7, which beats me. I hesitate to carpet direct but if AK or AA (which is in its range of hand) he sleeps. So I put 16.5 k in the pot of about 40K. What it offers good odds for pay with AK / AA. But I quickly shoved for about 30k. I pay up, almost on the table, and he shows me a nice pair of Qs: Qc And I won a huge pot for up to 120k.
The move is very impressive in general, but it is even harder when you're at the table. When we saw all our battles before this one. For more than two hours at that time, I had the impression of having played in Head's MIK22 up cons. All other players have played very passively. Only MIK and I had been active. Later I read the comments that have been done on this one on different forum. What he wrote about me made me very happy:
The context of where I was suddenly removed is important, I think. We were very aggressive
every two (only two at the table for that matter) during the first two hours
. When I saw the flop, I saw a golden opportunity to rid myself of one player
embarrassing to the table ... I
28,000 on
river (not quite 32 000 as stated by Julian), it is nevertheless true that
I could "just call and keep 11 000 if by chance my opponent had the full
Kings ... But I ' I was hungry because there were other hands in his range, or even as
sometimes less, in which case he will pay 11,000 more when the
pot is so huge (96 000 and dust, total).
My opponent played very well on this shot and others whom I had attended since the beginning
. Vannak deserves to go far in this tournament, I wish him
(sincèrement!) good luck
Round 4 100/200 about 120k stack
A new player replaces MIK22, it proves to be a true lock (one more haha:). I'll be with 5 / 6 locks on my left and I'll raise all hands and win all the pots very easily either PF or the flop with CBET.
- Th: 8am: R 500 EP everyone folded to my french in 0301.
Flop: 6d 6h 9am. Flop fine for me. But my opponent donk bet 800. nobody had done it so far. I hesitate to R, but I prefer to turn even a not too expensive. Beautiful turn: He 7c donk bet again 2k, I decide to R 5.5 k. He hesitated a long time and finally bedtime. (I do not know what he could have ...)
Round 5 100/200/25 about 130k stack
Last level before the dinner break
- 2 limper before me. I open 44. J'overlimp. Limping after another. In BB, a guy with a green logo Joker Poker (sponsored? Called green joker poker?) 3 bet to 1300. The first 2 limpers layer. My opponent is deep enough (at least 40k) I decide to pay to see a flop in position against him. And it is 2 to see the flop:
: 5h: 6d 9h. He quickly CBET 2500. He had hardly ever been since the beginning pf spokes the day. Thus, I put on a pretty big hand like AQ + + DD. This flop must have seemed very scary. As I limp PF and I call her R, I can have a whole bunch of pairs and / or suited connectors in my range. 78 may be part of it as 56, 55, 66, 99 ... So I decided to regain control of the hand to reraise 6k. He hesitates. And decides to pay me. Turn: Kc. Check it soon. I decide to keep the pressure on my opponent knowing that K may be a card that suits him. It has about 30k behind. I bet 10.5 k. He thought for a long time. And ended up sleeping in showing me: Qh-Qd. I decide to show my hand to make me pay a big hand later (one of the few that I will show bluffs of the day). He gets angry, starts to mutter insults towards me ... but I do as if I heard nothing. I decided at once to tighten my game to avoid getting reraise against a player because of his nervousness.
-: Jc Tc UTG +1. UTG limps, I limp too. A lock in middle 3bet to 1300. Everyone folded to UTG who call. I also call for dimensions. I flop the 3 cards dream: Qc 5c 6c. UTG donk bet 3600. I pay just hoping the reraise pf raiser. But it goes down. Turn blank. UTG donk bet on new 3.2 k only. It's time to bet Value / protect my hand. I see my opponent (woman so tight) with: Kc Qh or: Ac Qh. So I raise to 9k. It pays promptly. It a blank check river (by other Clubs, no doubles). I VB 15k and pays quickly. I watch it and muck. So I took another huge pot and increase my stack to 160k
The lunch break approach. And here is the final blow.
- I'm with BB: 6c: 9am. I have 3 limper before me. I kindly check my blind.
Flop: 5c: Qh-7s. Everyone check. Turn: 8d => dreaming card. But hey, I bet heartedly 600 in a pot that is 1025 (4 limpers + antes). I am french 0301 that pays me. And the other 2 go to bed. The Kh river does not change my hand, I have the nuts. My opponent is a little french who had earlier made a river bluff on the flop with QJo 76537. I decided to check the river to Induce a bluff. Knowing that if I put this king, he will often lie. So I check and he bets 1500. I reregarde my cards ... he thinks I am about to discard. So it is even ready to give to the dealer. But since I keep them, I smiled ... I smiled too, and I raise to 4200. He looks at his cards again, handles his chips and sends them ... I'm ready to show my cards thinking he was paying me ... but no! I reraised to 15000 yet! I recheck my cards ... a little disoriented by his reraise. I verify that I have the nuts ... no color as possible, no doublet. ... No I have the nuts. I make rugs. I wake up. I look at his chips ... it still 2 chips 10k, 1 5k chips ... well ... about 30k it will probably throw it ... But not paying me ... I showed him my hand, and he shows me a magnificent Ks: 8c 2 pairs ... I look ... I asked "how can you afford? "He told me, I thought you were bluffing as your pair of 4. Or maybe you had just the king ...
I ride my carpet after the blow to 221,600 in the first half day ... The dream flops, and many people to pay me. My style of play works perfectly, no one sees me on big hands. In short the first half of the day ... superb
Round 6 150/300/25 stack to 221K
- OTB: 3d: 5d R a limp which is pretty good and played very little time. I isolate to 1300
Flop: 4c: 6c: 6s CBET after I check to 2.5 k. It pays. Turn: 4s check it again. I hesitate to maintain the pressure, and then again I Bet 6k he pays promptly. At the time, I see a suited A with flush draw. The river comes: 3h. I decide to bluff by betting 10k to do his bed A. But he pays me with A4o ... Since little hand he had the play up, I do not see at all on this type of hand ... but finally I tell myself that my image for some time, my image n is not terrible, so much that other big cards arrive so I can make them profitable.
Round 7 200/400/50 stack at 200k
: Ks Qs player Winamax (DrBee) R UTG 1050. flop: Qh Ts 9c
2k I call him up only
Turn: 6h continues to bet 3k, I R 8k. He hesitated a little and continues to pay me. At this stage of the game I can see it on QJ, Qx or flush draw or a double draw with J (recall that it was tight from the beginning of the day and that raise UTG in this hand). It pays only 8k
River: 7s, check it. I think it's a very good card for me to bluff. I do not want to risk only because check, bet here might make him sleep hands that beat me like AA KK AQ on this style of board. So I put roughly 15k, but that it after having a bit tortured mind finally pay me with: 7: 8 am ... I am completely stuck in my reading of his hand. Its position and playing style had really comfortable the idea that he did not 8. Loser pays him a bit, saying he saw me on KJ, or J8 seen as I played the shot and he was two fingers to bed ... shame ...
Round 8 300 / 600 / 50 180k
I begin to find the tournament a little long. Fatigue begins to be felt. I open in middle
JJ, R 1500. My neighbor left me 3bet to 4k ... This is the first time she did. It has 20k chips in all. I decided to see the flop and fold if there is an A or K and CR carpet otherwise. The flop is T63, and I CR, carpet but damage to AA ...
Round 9 400/800/100 stack at 170k
- the first pair of AS! : As: Ad position. UTG limper. The player against whom I showed my 44 vs his pocket queens. I
3bet in 2500, against a player knowing that he will pay me with a lot of hands
Flop: Ts: 6d: 5d with 2 tiles I CBET to 3500, I VC 10k 25k behind It. I decided to make carpets. He looks at his chips, he looks at his watch and pay me with: JS: Td (he had announced earlier that it was his preferred hand;))
I have 1 or 2 shots or have AK / AQ or I mp R, CBET the flop and I C and I turn to fold on a river bet.
-: Kd: 6d flop: 6c: 6s: Kc. I CBET 3500. I get paid. My opponent may be a draw or color, so do me a reverse floating market had seen four AC 2 or 3 times a few times before. turn: Oh, good card for me if he has a flush draw with the Ace. I bet 5.2 K, I CR to 15.5 k. I hesitate a bit and decides to pay only for the induction on the river bluff. River: 4h 21k to open it, I send carpets and muck. I do not see too much with AA or KK and I think it can be can pay me with another 6. One hand is annoying ... A6
Round 10 500/1000/100 stack at 220k
Not really labor noted in this level. Pretty tired as I ride my carpet quietly
Level 11 600/1200/100 stack at 254k
Same as at level 10, I go a little higher flying shots, but nothing significant. I'll finish the day at 272,300 chips and I'm CL tournament. I am extremely confident for tomorrow.
